Stroll around your nearby Sainsburys, and you’re observing the benefits of globalization. One can buy almost anything at super-low costs. Whether it’s herbs from Vietnam or rum from Peru - it’s purchasable throughout the year. There’s never been a better period of time in human history to be a shopper in the west. This has come about through intricate stock control and logistics, economies of scale, strong competitive forces, and possibly most importantly, the fact that most manufactured goods are located, and frequently manufactured, in the poorer countries.
The final reason is quite important, and controversial. While western shoppers are purchasing clothing, food, drink and other items located from the poorest nations at rock-bottom prices, labourers and business organisations in these producing nations are often ripped off, and haven’t any real sustainable business model since they’re at the end of a very long string of middle-men who order what they manufacture, how much, and how often. This long string of middle men all demand their share too - in the end there’s not a great deal of cash for the actual manufacturer.
Even so, there is assistance for such exploited workers and companies. Fairtrade is a cause that seeks to give some power to such end-producing business organisations in the poorest nations of the world. It attempts to cut out the middle men, and pay the end-manufacturer a reasonable price for an item in a much more direct way. You may have encountered Fairtrade products in your local super market. You’ll sometimes find they’re a tad more costly, but by purchasing such ethical products, you will be happy to know the producer is working in a sustainable way that doesn’t just pay them justly via much more direct revenue streams, but it also allows them to reinvest in their business through greater profits, which really contributes in a positive way toward these poorer parts of the world.

I recently attended a seminar on Customer Service. My expectations were that it would be filled with tips to help employees become better at providing customer service. My expectations were blown away. The gentleman who led the seminar was fantastic. I thought I would share one of the topics covered during the seminar as it applies to everyone no matter what you do for a living.
One section from the seminar was entitled, “Quality Customer Service is ATTITUDE”. Whatever you do, do it with a positive attitude. If you don’t enjoy what it is you do, then do something else. Life is too short to be miserable at a job you hate.
Think of it this way, let’s assume you start working at the age of 22 and retire at the age of 65. That would mean you will have worked 43 years. During that time, even if you took 2 weeks off every year for a vacation, you would still have worked 10,578 days as opposed to having 4,482 days off. That means you will have worked 58% of your life for 43 years! Why in the world would you spend over half of your life doing something you hate?
The speaker related the following story to illustrate how you can enjoy anything with the right attitude. He is from a small town in south Georgia. At a local barbecue restaurant where he frequently goes with his wife and granddaughter, the same man worked as a volunteer greeter for years. Every time he walked in the restaurant with his granddaughter, the greeter always greeted them in an enthusiastic way and always remembered his granddaughters name. This really delighted his granddaughter.
Recently, the man passed away. By the world’s standards, this man was a nobody. All he did was enthusiastically greet people at the door of a barbecue restaurant. However, at his funeral, a huge line of Georgia State Patrol cars were lined up and leading the funeral progression. The reason… The restaurant was a frequent stop for the patrolmen while on duty. He touched their lives so much that they all wanted to be there at his funeral.
In short, Customer Service is being nice to people and treating them the way you would want to be treated. Sound familiar? Remember the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Good luck and make it a great day!

Businesses that fail, often forget to seek out the customer perspective. I have talked to some folks at businesses that were less than succesful, and when asked if they actively seek out customer comments, the answer invariably is no. Why don’t they do that? Why not get the customer perspective?
Oftentimes, the company is overconfident, and thinks they know what customers want. This myth, because that’s what it is, can be upheld as long as the customer is not involved. However, the customer has a strong vote in the buying process, and in the end it will become crystal clear how the customer feels! At that point, of course, it’s too late to do anything about it.
Another reason for not asking the customer is fear. From the customer perspective you might not be doing so well as you thought you were. For insecure persons that may come as a blow! In order to protect themselves, some folks just don’t want to hear it and simply don’t ask. On the other hand, they could be missing out on a whole lot of uplifting comments.
Get real! Would you rather get the customer’s votes in your wallet, or in your mailbox?
The sooner you know how the customer feels about your business, the sooner you can start to correct any shortcomings that may emerge. But you have to act. There is no use in hiding the remarks you don’t like. This doesn’t change the reality. Put your customer in the centre of your business and let the rest follow in tune.
This can only improve your bottom line.

Affiliate marketing is all about promoting the product. But it is not cold or hard selling. The affiliate lures the Internet user to visit his website by offering information and even free online courses. The visitor of the affiliate’s website will find the free information and will even enroll in the free online course. And while reading the informative articles, the visitor will slowly be convinced of the value of certain products.
And when the visitor realizes the value of certain products, he will most likely click the banner that links to the website of the merchant who manufactures the product or who officially sells the product. The affiliate does not do the direct selling. The affiliate simply sets the mind of the visitor, who is the target client, so that this visitor will be easier to convince to proceed to the purchase or order form of the merchant’s website.
Thus, for an affiliate marketing business to be successful, the promotional strategies carried out by the affiliate should also be successful. One that will contribute to the success of such promotion is the utilization of e-zines.
An e-zine is basically a newsletter which is emailed to the subscribers of the e-zine. This newsletter contains the types of information that the subscriber has already expressed a willingness to read about. And when an ad is placed together with such information, the subscriber will be made aware of the presence of the products promoted by the affiliate.
There are two types of e-zine ads that an affiliate can pay for. The first type is similar to a banner ad. It contains a couple of sentences composed of well-chosen words that will entice the reader to visit the website of the affiliate. An affiliate can easily write such an e-zine ad since he already has promotional materials for the products.
The second type of e-zine ad is called the solo ad. In such e-zine ad type, the newsletter being mailed to the subscriber contains only the advertisement of the affiliate and nothing more. Usually, such a solo ad is mailed separately from the regular newsletter. For example, if the newsletter is sent every Tuesday of the week, the solo ad is sent on a Thursday or a Friday.
There is no limit to the number of words placed in a solo ad. But the affiliate must keep in mind that such a solo ad is sent through email. Therefore, the solo ad should not be too long that reading it will take up so much time that the subscriber is not willing to sacrifice. The usually suggested number of words is 500.
With e-zine ads, the opportunities of earning more increase. And the affiliate moves closer towards that goal of affiliate marketing success.
Peter Garant’s affiliate marketing site offers unique website articles to webmasters who wants to maximize traffic and revenue on their affiliate sites.

SHOW YOU CARE
Find a way to give the customer what they want.
The customer is always right - this is really about an attitude of mind. Even if the customer appears really unreasonable, listen to them, hear what they have to say, paraphrase your understanding and find ways to go for a win-win. The customer wants to feel listened to and valued. Listening, reflecting back and letting it be known that you do really want to help, goes a long way to meeting customer needs.
AT THE FRONTLINE
Staff need to know that as well as accountability they have responsibility, the power to make decisions without the continuous need to refer up the line.
Frontline staff, particularly ought to have a very pleasing manner, in tone of voice and a welcoming manner. They are the `face’ of the organisation and very often are the first contact point between customer and organisation. If you are a company where repeat business is important, then having a customer for life is much more important than an individual exercising their ego and then that customer is lost to the organisation, usually forever.
EXCEPTIONAL KNOWLEDGE
Know what you are talking about. There’s nothing better than speaking to a service or product provider who knows exactly what they are talking about. Able to delight the customer by going the extra mile and providing information that enhances the customer’s experience of your company is a great way of keeping customers interested in your company.
CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
Within a couple of days (at the most) of delivering the service or product, check the customer is happy with what they have received and check if there is anything else you can do to help them. People really do appreciate this, it gives them the feeling that they actually do matter to your company.
CUSTOMERS KNOW BEST
Ask customers what it is they need from the service; find out how the service can be improved. They are in receipt of the service/product and they know. This is probably one of the best pieces of market research you could do. Once you ask customers though, it is really important to act on at least some of their recommendations and let them know that you have by providing them with feedback.
GET BUSY SOLVING CUSTOMER PROBLEMS
Do this quickly, as far as possible at the first point of contact. People tell more people when they are dissatisfied with your service or product than when they are satisfied and the worse thing about it is, even if the customer does not complain to you they will complain to their friends, family, colleagues, and the dog, anyone who will listen. Then you have not only lost that customer, you have lost all those others as well because if they have a choice they won’t risk using your company for fear of the same treatment.
As well as being known as a company that provides an exceptional quality of service, getting busy becoming known as a company that when things go wrong, there is no quibble about putting it right.
Everything I have written so far can be summed up as GOING THAT EXTRA MILE; people will remember that your company went out of its way to help them.
