Speed dating events are the newest rage in town. After all, meeting some twenty odd people in the span of one evening has to throw up some good prospects. Dates stretch from a miniscule three minutes to a loooong ten minutes and at the end of it every single out there has ticked off his or her choices. After the event, if two people have ticked against each other a ‘match’ is declared and the two people are provided each other’s contact information. Some daters can land up to seven matches in one evening while there are those who have to walk away without a match. So why is there such a big gap in the numbers? And what can you do to maximize your chances of a match at a speed dating evening?
Michelle and Lori, who oversee a speed dating event every three days, came up with six very simple tricks to make an impact in three minutes.
Trick One : Treat it like a job interview
When you go in to get that dream job, you dress to make an impression, work on your resume and try to present yourself in the best light possible. Think of the whole speed dating evening as a series of a mini - interviews, for the post of your date, partner, soul mate. Dress to make an impression, ask questions and above all stay lively and upbeat.
Trick Two : Create a Resume
No, you don’t need to sit down at the mini date and wave a copy of your resume into the face of every guy/gal you get to speed date. This is one resume you make for your self. List down on this resume your current ‘life - stage’. A life stage mentions in one sentence, where you are in life right now for e.g. ‘a thirty something single with a successful career, looking for companionship’, or a ’single parent looking for support’ Then put down two paragraphs, one about yourself and one about the kind of person you are looking for. When writing down what you are looking for in your date be specific. Someone ‘romantic’ can be someone who takes you out for a candle light dinner or someone who gives you a high by dancing with you all night. Be specific about your kind of ‘romantic’. Also list down things which are ‘deal - breakers’. If you can’t stand cigarette smoke, a smoker is a no - no and if you are allergic to cats, a person with pets is out of the fray. Once you are done, get a good friend to read through these to give you a reality check. You will now be much better prepared to pick the right people in three minutes.
Trick Three : Dress to impress
You would dress conservatively when going for a job interview. The same applies here. Don’t wear itsy- bitsy dresses or show up looking like you are ready to go camping. Make sure your dress is comfortable. There is nothing more distracting than a date fiddling with their dress through out the allotted ten minutes. Make sure your hair is well groomed, wear good shoes and use cologne or after- shave.
Trick Four : Be prepared
Before going for an interview, you read up about the company and prepare questions you would like answered about the position. In pretty much the same way, come up with a list of questions you would like your date to answer in the ten minutes you have. Throw run of the mill questions like’ What do you do?’ and ‘Where do you live?’, out of the window. Ask interesting, open ended questions, which tell you more about the person like’ What kind of people do you like hanging out with?,’ and ‘What would your best friend say about you?’
Trick Five : Don’t Whine
You would not inundate the interviewer at the job interview with whines about past bosses and bitchy co workers. Stick to the same rule here. Do not mention your ‘ex’, the guy who stalked you ( or the one you stalked )! Also avoid territory that leads to talk about a dysfunctional family or myriad diseases plaguing anyone around you. Ten minutes can be a very long time if one has to listen to someone go on about the digestive disorder their senile aunt suffered from a few months back.
Trick Six : Avoid the Negatives
At a job interview the you skirt all your negatives and accentuate all positives. At a speed date too, accentuate your positives. Do not inundate the guy/girl you are talking too, with a list of everything that’s wrong with you. It’s not a confessional and you don’t have to get all your sins off your chest right now. But that does not mean that you feel free to lie to come up looking good. Be honest yourself - only then would you be able to expect honesty from others.
Now go out there into the big bad world of speed dating with the confidence that you are going to land this job!

Browsing through the personal classifieds can be quite frustrating if you really don’t know what qualities or the type of personality it is that you are searching for in the person you are seeking, or in the relationship you are seeking.
Questions you need to ask yourself before and as you are reading through the personal sections again are: Why are you searching for someone, do you want a companion, a serious relationship or just to make friends with someone new with the hopes of dating. Who are you looking for, are you searching for someone tall, short, thin, stout, young, old, divorced, widowed, single, married, and the list goes on to include all personal choices and preferences in people.
Discussing this theory a little more in detail - If you have a problem dating someone with kids, you should skip over the classifieds that reveal those people who have kids or you will only be letting yourself down in the end when you are building a relationship. This theory pertains to all of the listings, for example, if you are searching for someone that is just for you, without ever sharing that person with another, search for someone who has never been married or who is not a widow (widower). Once you know whom you are searching for, you will be able to read the personal classifieds with more confidence and decision making abilities.
Read the classifieds completely, tracking the writing that interests you the most so that you can go back and compare, reread or contact that person. Reading through the entire personal section, or at very least the section that applies your target interest group, you will find a variety of people with vast differences in personalities just through the short descriptions available.
Now is the tough time to write your contact letter, made much simpler if you have already created your profile for replies to read about you. Starting your reply is easy with an opening such as, ‘I have read your profile and found you are most intriguing (interesting, exciting, provocative)’ or you could use something more elaborate such as ‘Your profile interested me to the point where I had to contact you right away to find out what we have in common’. While there are many expressions and various phrases you can use when writing your opening letter, the contact letter is truly going to be a reflection of your personality, and what you are searching for in a relationship.
The first example of ‘I have read your profile and found you are most intriguing’, would reveal that you are interested. Are you searching for friendship in the classified section? Try using the first example building on that sentence to read along the lines of: ‘I would like the opportunity to get to know you better and talk a while’. But if you are searching for a lover through the personals, the second sentence could read: ‘I really would love to get to know you better, find out what type of person you are searching for and hopefully to create a match with you’. The point here is to keep your true feelings within the boundaries of words, not scaring off someone if you are just wanting to be friends, while on the other hand if you are searching for a lover don’t hide behind words of a friendly chat.
Top ideas to use in your opening introduction letter are express your interest to your potential ‘date’ using your writing to express why you are contacting that person. Reveal to this person how you propose to meet their needs in their search for a friend, companion or lover using expressive words such as ‘I intend to’ or ‘I would like to’ or even ‘I have been searching through the classifieds and found your profile appealing to me because’. Give just a few hints about your where you are located, without revealing to much about your without determining whether the two of you will continue a conversation. Use phrases like, ‘I am from the east coast’ or ‘I live south of California’ or other such general terms, revealing your location to a particular location through later conversations. Your initial contact with a proposed ‘date’ should be about the type of person you are searching for, why you have been using resources online to search for someone special, and what you are hoping to gain from a relationship from this person with personal details revealed through additional conversations as your ‘relationship’ trust grows.
Online personals have been created for the user to act anonymously while investigating the possibilities of friendship, love and for finding that someone special to spend your life with. Using your thoughts and feelings through this situation, creatively with expressive words without misleading readers will allow you to reach your destination, of finding that someone special, faster and easier that you would be able to in any other situation.

Some people stop being creative at gift giving when they exchange wedding rings. But a marriage is a lifetime thing and if you stop being creative in giving gifts to your wife, chances are, even if she says nothing, she’s going to feel that you’re falling out of love with her.
And what better way to make your wife feel she’s sexy and desired than by….giving her handpicked sexy lingerie?
The best way to buy sexy (and perfect) lingerie for your wife is…first, to be armed with information. Her size and fit. You can do this by sneaking into her intimate apparel drawer and taking a close look at the labels. That should do the trick. Even if the sizes for normal bras and lingerie are not going to be the same, at least the shop assistant has got figures to work with. Forget about the typical scenarios people write into screenplays or movies. Men should NOT go around measuring other people’s breasts and bra size with the palm or their hands. If you’re getting the lingerie for your wife online, you should check the returns and exchange terms that they have on their website. Just in case the size is not right, your wife can at least return it or exchange it for another size or color. All the better, if you’re buying lingerie for your wife, patronize online shops with free shipping - it saves you quite a bit of money there.
Men have no problems with matching their intimate apparel but usually, women feel sexy and most of them would like to match their bras and panties. So, buy lingerie with matching tops and bottoms. Faced with a potential worldwide Avian flu pandemic, I surveyed many health promoting aids available from which I could effectively achieve a state of basic readiness, and in so doing, pulled from obvious “traditional” approaches and looked towards some of the most innovative products in supplement form for popular distribution. By revealing the following diet related options, I will show how even the so called “poor” can ready themselves and their loved ones by practicing simple but exceptional immune system care. Fresh, natural spring water (the veritable source of life)
During my summer visits to the Appalachian region, I always drank and bathed with fresh spring water. On occasion, I would collect water from a free flowing source which originated from deep within the earth. It was through these experiences that I came to know the meaning behind the quote mentioned above.

Through our minds and our personalities, we experience ourselves as masters over the environment in which we live; we make decisions over the fate of the earth’s environment, vegetation, animal and our own communal life. Dr Fuhrman may or may not be rightly estimating the Avian Flu’s influence on truly healthy individuals but he undoubtedly supplies excellent immune system care information. Check out some of the research work he based his opinions on, and judge for yourself.
An easy and excellent way to receive the health benefits of fresh fruit, vegetables, greens and herbs is through drinking their freshly made juice. I’ve found an inexpensive manual model sold in the US, made in China, that costs approx. $20 and which is also ideal for passing greens and herbs; the most robust machines are not. This model is very good because it doesn’t heat the juice and extracts most of the liquid. It takes more time to make less but it’s accessible to many. (Use a large carrot as a feeder and as with all juicers, include some lemon to recipes to avoid rapid oxidization).
Among some of the most innovative nutritional supplement products to appear in the last decade are the ‘natural whole food concentrates’. Though not cheap, they are the answer to a demand for ‘nutrient excellence’ and convenience. A wide variety of quality foods are gathered together and maintained in food form which allows their nutrients to be easily assimilated by our bodies. These products can be used for daily health upkeep, to boost immunity, to restore strength following illness or to revitalize after a workout. Recently eBay launched its new “eBay Express” and it’s almost certain to be a major profit center to eBay sellers.
As everyone knows, eBay began as an auction site. Catering to small, mom and pop sellers, eBay evolved into a more traditional online shopping channel with its stores and such features as Buy It Now (BIN) which allows buyers to purchase merchandise immediately, rather than waiting for an auction to end.
With eBay Express this transition to online store is complete, although eBay will certainly retain the auction format for which it is most famous.
In 2005 eBay bought shopping.com and the similarity in format between the two is apparent. The format is almost identical although there are far more items on eBay Express than shopping.com. For instance, this morning in ‘women’s apparel’ there were “469,207 matches found” on Express and “79,000 items from 525 stores” on shopping.com.
One great difference: with the eBay Express system every purchase goes to the same shopping cart, even though there are thousands of merchants. The shopping site, on the other hand, leads directly to the individual store that owns the displayed merchandise.
eBay sellers cannot sign up for eBay Express, although they can opt out. Instead, the merchandise is automatically listed if it’s in the BIN format or if it’s listed in an eBay store. At this time, there is no charge for this dual listing on eBay and eBay Express, although I feel certain that this will change in the future and that eBay will charge for this service.
Sellers will receive not only more exposure for each item listed, but there are other benefits as well:
1. Buyers can choose to purchase multiple items all in one transaction, just like any traditional store. If the buyer wants eight different items, it can be handled in one transaction, with one payment and one shipping charge. This is so much simpler than dealing with eight different auctions, eight different sellers and eight different shipping fees that it’s almost certain to encourage multiple sales.
2. This will, in turn, solve one of the biggest gripes of eBay sellers: the dreaded Non Paying Bidder! For reasons known only to themselves, there are multiple dead beats who deliberately win an auction - but never pay the seller. Usually they don’t even respond to repeated emails. This is very costly to sellers - not only in the obvious sense of unpaid merchandise but also because of the loss of other buyers who were legitimately interested in the merchandise but have most likely gone elsewhere. With eBay Express, everything will be paid in advance so the buyer won’t withdraw her merchandise from the market yet never be paid for it.
3. There is a shopping cart for eBay Express and it includes multiple ways to pay.
4. eBay has promised to aggressively promote eBay Express in the search engines and there is every reason to trust that promise. After all, it is in eBay’s interest to use their considerable muscle to ensure the success of eBay Express. This is certain to mean more traffic to sellers.
Although the starting point of seller participation is either an eBay store or Buy It Now items, there are additional requirements:
* At this time, the Express is only available to American and Canadian sellers. If eBay Express is a success, this is very likely going to expand to other countries.
* The items for sale must physically be in the US
* There are PayPal conditions: the seller must be either a PayPal Business or a PayPal Premier participant
* Every item listed in eBay Express must include a picture
* If applicable, the “condition” field must indicate whether the merchandise is Used/New/Refurbished
* Such items as books, movies and DVDs have a “pre-filled item information” component to their listings and this must be used
* There are three choices for shipping on eBay and these must be clearly indicated in the ’shipping’ field of each listing in order to be included in eBay Express
- Calculated
- A flat fee of “X” amount of dollars
- No cost for shipping
* Sellers feedback must be a minimum of 100 points
* Seller feedback must have at least a 98% approval rate
Items will be listed in up to three different locations on eBay Express. According to eBay’s president:
“Results are sorted on relevancy against the buyer’s search by default. Searching brings back listings that may not be an exact keyword match and sorts them based on a range of factors. The buyer is able to re-sort by total cost, i.e. item price plus shipping cost.”
With all these exciting promises, there are eBay seller gripes about one feature and that is that sellers will sometimes be presented with orders from unconfirmed PayPal addresses. This is significant because PayPal offers some fraud protection but only if the merchandise is shipped to an address that has been confirmed by PayPal. If the address is not confirmed and the buyer is a fraud, sellers will lose out.
In spite of all the outrage over this provision, it isn’t that different from online sellers who have their own merchant account.
In the United States, for example, there is an Address Verification System. If we, for instance, receive an order from an address that doesn’t match the address on the buyer’s credit card, we know that we are taking a much larger risk than normal. In fact, many merchant account providers forbid turning off the AVS and breaking this rule can cost the merchant his account. In this case, all orders that don’t have an address match are automatically rejected.
If eBay sellers don’t want to agree to these terms, they have two choices:
1. The first seller choice involves opting out of eBay Express entirely. This seems to me to be a foolish choice. Yes, there is added risk but the possibility of increased business will most likely more than make up for an occasional bad transaction.
It’s imperative that we make it easy for buyers to do business with us. Perhaps the strongest example I’ve ever seen of eBay fear was a notice by a seller that we had to mail him and get permission to bid on one of his items! Undoubtedly he had been burned by an unscrupulous buyer and tried so hard to protect himself that he most likely destroyed his business. I seriously doubt that people are willing to do as he requested (unless his merchandise was irresistible - and it wasn’t!)
2. There is an option to decide on a case-by-case basis if the transaction should be honored. This might be useful in the event of very expensive merchandise, but it could quickly grow to be a problem in the event of many sales.
Most everything that eBay touches turns to gold and eBay Express will likely be the same. We cannot know the results as yet, but the increased sales will probably far outweigh the increased risk. We cannot know without testing but sellers would be wise to concentrate on these exciting new opportunities rather than focusing on fear of loss.
Wandering around eBay Express as a buyer, I cannot help but be pleased with what I find. I have the option of viewing up to 90 items on each page, the volume is gigantic, the pictures are great, and I can buy whatever I want with only one payment. It’s more like Amazon than eBay. With the vast resources behind this new selling venue, success is the most likely possibility and this seller doesn’t intend to miss out!
Instead of looking for “hot” products to sell on eBay, turn the process around … find the suppliers first, then choose from thousands of products to find profitable ones.

Tehachapi, California, in Kern county, is 34 miles NW of Lancaster, California and 75 miles N of Los Angeles, California. Just under 12,000 people currently call Tehachapi home. eBay Membership sites can be a great way to learn from experienced eBayers, guiding you though the complete A-Z of eBay. However, with may new sites emerging over night you need to ensure your getting value for money. So, before parting with your cash the next question you should ask is:
Whats included in my membership fee?
There are many avenues of how you can make money from eBay, from selling your own goods, by becoming an eBay Trading Assistant or by referring eBay to friends & family acting as an affiliate to eBay.
So what does the membership site focus on. Is it all of the above (and more ideal!) or is it purely a site for selling on eBay. This is not necessary a bad thing, as long as the membership site focuses on your needs.
